Review 20 days Egypt – from Cairo to Abu Simbel
This was the first time that we had an organized holiday and Djed was so good. It already started in the Netherlands. Ayman was available for questions, and he came with some good advice about the trip.
We had a trip from Cairo to Abu Simbel. When we arrived in Cairo, there was Tarik. He managed our luggage and our visa very quick, he arranged the bus to the hotel. A very warm welcome.
In Cairo our guide was Hend. She showed us all the beautiful places in Cairo and always with a lot of explanation. We went to the Citadel, the Koptic church and the Egyptian museum. We saw the pyramids of Gizeh and Sakkara, the famous Sphinx and the pyramid of Djoser. As a welcome we had a lovely lunch at a farm in Sakkara, provided by Djed.
After a view days we left Cairo for a tour on the Westbank to Luxor. Mohamed and Mohamed were the guide and the driver. Because we spent a lot of time in the car, it was very pleasant to meet them and learning the Egyptian language. We drove from Cairo to Minya, were we visited the red pyramid and the Bent pyramid; we went to Beni Hassan (where we saw some graves) and the ruins in Tell al Amarna. From there through the Nile valley to Abydos with the temple of Seti I. And to Dendara with the Hathour temple and finally to Luxor. Guide Mohamed Osama told us a lot about the history, the goddess, the kings and the backgrounds at the temples. Beautiful sites and no tourists accept us.
In Luxor we had to say goodbye again but there was also a nice, good guide, Ghada. Of course, we did the Karnak and the Luxor temple with the lane of the sphynxes. The local manager Osama took us in the evening to the local market. We had a very nice afternoon with a wonderful lunch (thanks to Sofra Restaurant – we ate several times here) on the Felucca with Mohamed Adel. And we did together with Ghada the Westbank part with the valley of the kings, the valley of the nobles and the valley of the workers and Hatshepsut. We visited the temple of Ramses III and the Rameseum.
And finally, the balloon tour in the very early morning with the sunrise above the Nile. What an experience. We spent some nights on the Eastbank and some on the Westbank. Both sides were very nice to be.
Again, time to say goodbye for the next step: a 4 nights tour on the Dahabiya, sailing on the Nile River. Hemdi was our guide here. So enthusiastic and again so full of knowledge. We visited some
places on our way like the temples of Esna and Edfu we had a BBQ somewhere on an island, we walked through the Nubian village Koubiana, visited the camel market and we had a good time with the other couples, an American family and a very nice couple from Austria. One of the highlights was cooking together on the boat with Mohamed the cook. What a fun we had in the kitchen and how did we enjoy his meals. Everything was so well arranged. The less thing is saying goodbye all the time. In Aswan the other people were going home.
We had the next trip with guide Achmed to Abu Simbel. The last temples for us in Egypt: Ramses II and his wife. The day after we returned to Aswan. Here we spent times on the Aswan Dam, and we visited the temples Kalabsja and Philae.
So, evaluated in a few sentences:
• It was so good organized
• We had such good professional and friendly guides with so much knowledge. Always explaining and telling. And so very kind.
• We also had very good drivers. The traffic is rather chaotic so how they guided us through this was wonderful.
• We had good minibuses, always with lots of cool water on our way.
• We made new memories, new friends and good spirit.
Djed, thank you for that. Thanks to all the guides and drivers, all the friendly people we met. They took so good care of us, so it felt so comfortable to be there with you. It was an incredible experience.
